China has strictly objected to India's move to explore the South China Sea and has "warned" India to stay away from the region. This is another example of China's assertive nature against India. While China can expand it's naval presence in the Indian Ocean, it does not want India to expand it's naval position with respect to trade and exploration.
External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna has already made it clear that the South China Sea is a part of the world generally rather than belonging to any particular country. This is the correct approach that has been taken by India. We should carry on with our plans to expand our naval presence across the South China Sea.
This will also send a signal to China that India is not going to be looked upon like a soft country which will be bogged down by "warnings" and "threats".
It will be interesting to see what unfolds further.
